Always popular: The Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre re-opens this month.
Come and help celebrate the
Kaiapoi pool re-opening on August
17 - August 18, from 10am till 5pm.
There will be free swimming, games,
giveaways, entertainment and
Repair work on the earthquake-
damaged Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre
began on September 3, 2012. It has
involved re-roofing and rebuilding
the external walls, with the contract
being let to Higgs Construction. The
total cost of the project comes to
$4.3 million, with most of that
covered by a grant
Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre is used by
families and individuals in the
Waimakariri District and
neighbouring areas. It is one of three
pools in the Waimakariri region,
along with the indoor Dudley Park
pool in Rangiora and the outdoor
seasonal pool in Oxford.
The centre has been used by
people of all ages, for aquarobics,
coaching, masters, school swimming
sports and water safety
programmes, preschool classes,
rehabilitation and hydrotherapy, and
family and recreational swimming.
Groups using the centre have
included: Comcare Trust (for a
mental health get-active
programme), Waikuku Beach Surf
Lifesaving Club (winter training),
North Canterbury Sport and
Recreation Trust (Kiwi Sport
swimming lessons for 29 primary
schools), and Special Olympics North
It is an indoor, heated aquatic
facility with a 25-metre, 6-lane main
pool, a learners' pool with a waterfall
