Upper SouthIsland trampoline champs
Flying high: Acompetitor in aprevious competition.
This annual event showcases the top
age group trampolinists who go on
to compete in the national and
world age group champs. It will be
run on July 27 and July 28 at ICE
Trampoline, 28 Edward St, Rangiora.
Trampolining is a competitive
Olympic sport in which gymnasts
perform acrobatics while bouncing
on a trampoline. These can include
simple jumps in the pike, tuck or
straddle position to more complex
combinations of forward or
backward somersaults and twists.
There are three related
competitive rebound sports --
synchronised trampoline, tumbling
(or power tumbling) and double
routines consist of combinations of
10 contacts with the trampoline bed
combining varying rotations, twists
and shapes with take-off and
landing in one of four positions:
A routine must always start and
finish on the feet. In addition to the
10 contacts with the bed in a
routine, competitors must start their
routine within 60 seconds after
presenting to the judges. They are
also are permitted up to one ''out
bounce'', a straight jump to control
their height at the end of a routine,
before making the landing. The
trampolinist must stop completely --
this means that the bed must stop
moving as well -- and they have to
hold still for a count of three
seconds before moving.
All exciting, fast moving and the
routines very entertaining!
For those who are interested, ICE
Trampoline Sports is Canterbury's

based in Rangiora.

Vicki Humphreys, it offers a full
