Tiromoana Bush Native Forest Restoration Project
Transwaste Canterbury has a vision to restore a
410 hectare estate -- in the lower Kate Valley -- into
a pristine lowland forest ecosystem similar to that
which existed before people came to the South
Island, and which will support a dynamic mix of
native plants and bird life. A 12-hectare wetland has
also been established, adding to the network of
smaller natural wetlands in the vicinity. The
Tiromoana Bush Walkway will provide the public
with access to this conservation area.
Mt Cass Walkway
Transwaste, in partnership with the Waipara
Promotion Association, has developed a public
walkway across Transwaste land to the summit of
Mt Cass. This walkway provides spectacular views
of Pegasus Bay and North Canterbury, and access
to the limestone landscape near the summit.
At the corner of SH1 and SH7 (Waipara Junction)
turn right into Mt Cass Rd. The parking area is
approximately 2km from SH1.
Free buses will run from 9.30am to 3.30pm, taking
people on an approximate 1 hour tour to view the
Landfill, as well as the Tiromoana Walkway and Mt
Cass Walkway sites.
A public marquee will house information stands and
multimedia presentations which will be displayed
throughout the day. Barbecued food and
refreshments will be available.
For safety reasons, private cars and pedestrians
are not allowed into the Landfill area.
Please note that due to the high fire risk the
