Waimakariri District Libraries now has free wifi
available 24/7. If you have a mobile internet device
such as a netbook, smartphone or ipod, you can now
search for a new property, apply for a job or complete
assignments whenever you need to.
"Libraries in the District have offered free wifi for many
years but it has only been available during opening
hours. As a result it has been difficult for many people
to access online services such as banking, Trademe
and Facebook outside of work hours" says District
Libraries' Manager, Phillippa Ashbey.
"Free wifi is widely available in many cities around
the world and there is an increasing expectation by
visitors and new migrants that New Zealand cities
should provide this too. Our internet provider is not
charging us to extend the service, so it's a perfect
opportunity to make it easier for people to connect
with information and the world around them."
The free wifi hotspot comprises Rangiora, Kaiapoi and
Oxford libraries and also extends to nearby car parks
and seating areas.
