lost Farmers in Rangiora, and I
was delighted to read the article
in the Northern Outlook
(December 1) regarding how
adamant Farmers is to return to
Not quite two weeks ago I
started up a Facebook page called
Bring Back Farmers To
Rangiora and expected 100
Likes so I could call Farmers
head office and tell them about it.
At the time of writing this letter
I am amazed that we have nearly
350 Likes already, and the page
is flooded with comments in
favour of Farmers returning and
why it is sorely missed in our
community. That article has
answered many of the questions
as to what is happening, is it
We still have many wonderful

Gina Fowler (Outlook, December

hoary old myth that the nasty Old
Testament (I agree, it s barbaric
and disgusting) has been
superseded by the softer, more
caring and gentle, New
However, Jesus said in
Matthew and Timothy that you
had better obey the Old
Testament or else.
The New Testament is actually
an anthology (written in Greek)
circa AD 100-150.
It s doubtful Jesus had a hand
in it, but if he said Love your
neighbour as yourself how did
the 300+ year horror of the
inquisition happen? What part of
his loving admonition did they
miss, and how?
She claims that many have

Her quote of the theologian vs

Religion last had some value in
the dark ages, maybe, as a

Sorry, I cannot agree with Gina
Fowler. Most people have not

Most people have been
indoctrinated by their parents,
and have never questioned what
they have been taught.
Why a life transformation?
Why suddenly believe in a god
when something happens which
he could have prevented?
Your great theologian quote is
called Pascal s Wager and has
The reason is simple -- which
god are you talking about?
The human race has created
monotheistic gods (Yahweh, God
and Allah), and polytheistic gods
from Greece (Zeus, Hermes,
Hades, etc) and from Egypt (Ra,
Isis, Anubis, Osiris etc) to name a
In fact, well over 2500 gods
have been created by man.
Even Homer Simpson said it
very elegantly: Suppose we ve
chosen the wrong god.
Every time we go to church
we re just making him madder
Actually, it s far better to live
your life without religion than use
Pascal s Wager.
As Will Kimbrough said:
"Science is constantly trying to
prove itself wrong for the benefit
of man. Religion is constantly
trying to prove itself right for the
benefit of itself. Stephen Wood
