Scheme Operator/Raceman -- IRRIGATION INDUSTRY
Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd (WIL) is an irrigation scheme located in North
Canterbury delivering irrigation and stockwater across a command area of
44,000ha between the Waimakariri and Ashley Rivers. WIL is a Cooperative
company owned by 212 farmer shareholders.
The Company is in a phase of continuous upgrade with the present expansion
of the Intake and Main Race, the installation of water metering and telemetry
along with the proposed construction of an 8.3Mm3 storage facility currently in
the consenting stage.
We now require a Scheme Operator to join our team. This is a multifunctional
role with core responsibilities that include race and canal maintenance,
involvement in water metering, telemetry and annual verification in addition to
water ordering duties. We are seeking applicants with the following
qualifications, experience and skills:
• Excellent communication skills with a shareholder focus
• Must have experience operating excavators holding W,T,R endorsements
• Technical aptitude along with basic computer skills in Excel, MSWord and
proprietary software (full training will be given in water metering and
• Preventative maintenance and basic mechanical understanding
• Ability to work extended hours during the irrigation season plus one
rostered weekend per month
• Exposure to project management processes
• Knowledge of area and irrigation experience an advantage
This is a permanent salaried position, the work is varied and rural based. You
must enjoy the outdoors, like working in a motivated team environment and be
